Here are DogOscopes.com we are putting together our summer reading list for the DogOscope’s Summer Book Club. One of the books that we are going to read this summer is “Every Rescued Dog Has a Tale: Stories from the Dog Rescue Railroad” by Deborah Eades.
EVERY RESCUED DOG HAS A TALE is the story of homeless dogs fated to die on death row in animal shelters around the country that were saved by being transported by volunteers to other states. Each chapter is the story of one dog from his hapless beginning to his happy ending, complete with photos. Some stories are heart wrenching while others are full of humor. They all teach a lesson of how one person can make a difference in the lives of homeless animals. All it takes is a weekend drive and some free time.
In this book, you will meet Oreo, a pit bull puppy who was being used as bait in a dog fighting ring in New Jersey before being rescued and adopted by a family in Kentucky. You will also read the story of the Chocolate Chip puppies who were found abandoned in the woods in Tennessee after being tortured and beaten and left for dead by some future serial killer. They are taken to a vet and recover fully. Finally they take a Christmas weekend trip to Canada where they all get adopted by loving families.
The book contains 17 individual chapters, each profiling a rescued dog, with an additional 15 pages of black and white photos of many other dogs on their way to a happy ending. These stories will touch you and may even entice you to become a transporter yourself after reading how easy it is to help.
You can also read and share additional rescue stories on the book’s facebook fan page.
