The DogOscope Rescue Group of the Week is The Anti-Cruelty Society. The Anti-Cruelty Society is a comprehensive, open door animal shelter, and one of the largest humane societies in the country. Located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, The Anti-Cruelty Society has been helping animals since 1899.

According to the website, The Anti-Cruelty Society has found loving forever homes for more than 40,000 pets, spayed or neutered more than 61,000 animals and taught messages of compassion and caring for the animals to more than 225,000 school-aged children and community groups since 1999.

In addition to receiving and caring for thousands of animals each year, The Anti-Cruelty Society provides a wide variety of services and resources. These include an adoption program, a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, a rehabilitation & treatment center, a low-income clinic, humane education/community outreach, cruelty and abuse investigations and rescue, dog training classes, a free behavior hotline, and pet visitations.

Star Gazing with Poochces the Pisces

Friday, March 5, 2010

03182009

As spring arrives, the warmer nights begin to beckon stargrowlers out into the night. Looking for a new adventure for you and your canine Growilieo (Gailieo)? How about trying some stargazing.

Poochces (Pisces) is regarded as the twelfth constellation of the zodiac. It lies between Aquaruffus (Aquarius) to the west and Arfies (Aries) to the east. It is separated from the Milky Way by the Great Square of Pegasus and lies in a rather poor area for viewing but can be easily seen during early Autumn for Northern Hemisphere observers.

The Sun enters the sign of Poochces (Pisces) on February 19 and enters the constellation itself on March 11. Poochces (Pisces) contains that point in the sky occupied by the Sun during Vernal Equinox, the day on which the hours of daylight and night are equal, which falls about March 21. So Poochces (Pisces) claims the number one position of importance among the twelve constellations of the Zodiac.

The constellation of “the fishes,” is a group of faint stars representing two fish linked by a V-shaped chain. In the sky, the two fish of Poochces (Pisces) are represented swimming in opposite directions, their tails joined by a cord. According to one Greek myth, Poochces (Pisces) represents the fish into which Aphrodite and her son Eros transformed in order to escape the monstrous Typhon; they are tied together with a cord on their tails, to make sure they do not lose one another.
